Africa-Australia Skills & Education Event - 6 November 2025

The Australian Business Chamber of Commerce (Southern Africa), along with the GIBS Business School (Gordon Institute of Business Science), hosted a highly anticipated Africa-Australia Skills and Education Event, where a panel discussion was had on Artificial Intelligence, its rapid development, and the impacts on education, industry, and governments.
A big thank-you to our panelists – Manoj Chiba (PhD), Nico Eleftheriades, Christabel Phiri, Alude Xuba for candidly sharing their perspectives and sparking our thoughts and discussion and the Australian High Commission, South Africa and H.E. Tegan Brink for their support on this very important topic. A big thank-you to our MC, Ms Leigh Joy Mansel-Pleydell, for facilitating the event.

Unlocking FDI Potential Amid Visa Policy Challenges Breakfast Event - 5 September 2025

On 5 September 2025, the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce Southern Africa had the privilege of being part of honouring Dr. Leon Schreiber, Minister of Home Affairs for South Africa, to The Bryanston Country Club for a pivotal session titled Unlocking Foreign Direct Investment. This initiative was led by the British Chamber of Business in Southern Africa, in close collaboration with fellow European Chambers and strategic partners. The Minister provided an update on reform initiatives designed to lower obstacles and stimulate economic progress, highlighting the critical role of collaboration among government, the private sector, and civil society.

The session featured a presentation by Marisa Jacobs (Managing Director at Xpatweb) and addressed the practical implications of South Africa’s latest immigration changes for businesses employing foreign nationals. Navigating the Expropriation Act - 22 July 2025

On the 22 July 2025, ABCSA partnered up with other international chambers, for a critical discussion on South Africa’s Expropriation Act which was led by the British Chamber of Business in Southern Africa.
Advocate Yana van Leeve was the main speaker, and her insights highlighted both the legislative context and the practical realities that face stakeholders. Global Affairs Perspective Event - 8 May 2025

The Australian Business Chamber of Commerce (Southern Africa) had the pleasure of hosting Nicky Weimar – Chief Economist at Nedbank to speak on the various perspectives of the current state of global affairs and how South Africa is positioned to handle and respond to these events.
It was an extremely engaging and timely discussion and helped decipher the uncertainty around the world during these times.

Breakfast Session on Employee Share Ownership (ESOPS) - 26 March 2025

On 26 March 2025, the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) hosted a very informative breakfast session, in partnership with the Southern Africa – Canada Chamber of Commerce, the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce and Transcend Capital, focusing on Employee Share Ownership Plans (ESOP’s) for multinational companies with a view on financial services.

G20 Briefing and Q&A Event - 13 March 2025

It was an honour for the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce (Southern Africa) to co-host the G20 Briefing Event with the Australian High Commission, South Africa.
The event was structured to provide an overview of the G20 currently happening in South Africa.
The Group of Twenty (G20) is an international forum of both developing and developed countries which seeks to find solutions to global economic and financial issues.
The themes for South Africa’s G20 Presidency in 2025, is “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability”.
We explored the perspectives and interests of Australia and South Africa and where there are opportunities for collaboration and consensus.
It was an extremely well attended event and we would like to thank Australian Deputy High Commissioner David Geyer and First Secretary Brett Elmer for graciously hosting the event and facilitating this engaging discussion.
