Date: 7 November 2024
It was with great anticipation that ABCSA set out to organise the second annual offering of the Africa-Australia Skills & Education event, held on the 7th of November. This year, the focus was on spotlighting a broader range of industries and giving our membership an opportunity to showcase the very positive impact they make in their respective business sectors and communities.
Attendees were treated to dynamic and informative presentations from
- Two returning organisations in the formal education sector (Ideas Group & EIT)
- One in the technology services sector (Boiler Room)
- First-time presenters in the mining (Rio Tinto) and retail (Cotton On Foundation) sectors
It was an enlightening evening that covered topics ranging from the importance of STEM to the future of AI in education, through to great CSI initiatives in mining and an in-job training programme that directly addresses South Africa’s youth unemployment crises.
Thank you to
- The speakers for making this a memorable event
- GIBS for hosting us so graciously
- The Australian High Commission for your ongoing support
ABCSA looks forward to our third instalment in 2025.”

The 9th of August marked South Africa’s National Women’s day. 66 years ago, 20,000 women of all races marched in Pretoria to fight against inequality. To celebrate Women’s month, High Commissioner Gita Kamath hosted the Auditor-General of South Africa, Tsakani Maluleke, in conversation with the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce – Southern Africa’s Chair, Judi Nwokedi. Ms Maluleke is the first female Auditor General in the institution’s 109-year history. She delivered a powerful message on accountability and integrity within the public service.
AGM Networking
Date: 2022
The Australian Business Chamber of Commerce Southern Africa (ABCSA), convened for their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and networking in May 2022 at the beautiful Worley offices, situated in Melrose Arch.
The night began with a warm welcome and beverages at the reception area of the conference facilities. The event was well attended by both the ABCSA members covering many industries and many potential members. Included in attendance, as always, were the representatives of the Australian High Commission and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (AUSTRADE).
Our chairperson, Ms Judi Nwokedi, in her true form, led proceedings with introductions, apologies and all AGM proceedings, with all motions being passed and a few queries being addressed. All attendees were then treated to a fabulous presentation on Energy, Chemicals and Resources from our Worley hosts and proud ABCSA supporters, Ms Megan Keefer and the current Senior VP Mr Shaun Mills.
Megan took the forum through their five-year ambition: To be recognized as “the leader in sustainability solutions” through their “People”, Their “Portfolio” and Our “Planet”. This, together with Shaun’s stories around his travels within the Worley group and what they are doing globally was impressive to hear.
The official AGM then came to an end and Worley invited all participants to join them for snacks and beverages.
