AGM & Networking Drinks event 28 February 2023
Date: 28 February 2023
On the 28th February 2023 the ABCSA Annual General Meeting was held at the offices of Fasken in Sandton. The AGM was well represented by members as well as guest representatives from the Australian High Commission and Australian Trade and Investment Commission (AUSTRADE). Our outgoing Chair, Ms Judi Nwokedi, supported by the deputy Chair, Ms Regina Molloy led the proceedings with the welcoming remarks, introductions, apologies and AGM proceedings.
There was healthy discussion during the meeting around membership, budget and events and the AGM saw the resolutions proposed passed. These included the change out of directors with the appointment of Mr Shaun Mills as the new Chair and Ms Yvonne Lekalakala as the deputy Chair as well as Mr Milan Bossinger as Treasurer. Appreciation was extended to Judi Nwokedi, Regina Molloy and Neville Munien for their service to ABCSA and the outstanding work they have done during their time on the board.
After the AGM proceedings were concluded all attendees reconvened to the networking event hosted by Fasken where members were able to reconnect and new connections were established. It was great to meet with new members and there were many great discussions around ideas for networking events in the coming year. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Fasken for hosting both the AGM and the networking event.
Panel Discussion 31 July 2023
Date: 31 July 2023
On Monday 31 July, the Australian Business Chamber of Commerce Southern Africa hosted a panel discussion event focused on operating in the South African Business Environment. The event was graciously hosted by Nedbank at their offices in Sandton and well attended by the members of ABCSA despite it being an early start on a cold Monday morning. The event started with an energetic and very informative presentation by Ms Nicky Weimar, Chief Economist at Nedbank, on the current economic outlooks for South Africa after which Mr Scott Morris of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission moderated a panel discussion on the knowledge, experience and perspectives of business leaders operating in the South African Business Environment with particular focus on energy & Infrastructure, inclusivity, Investment Environment, Security and Skills.
The panel consisted of Ms Natalie Wills from Cotton On, Mr Errol Smart from Orion Minerals and Mr Engelbert Binedell from Growthpoint Properties who all provided valuable insights and perspective on both the challenges and the opportunities these provide to business. On completion of the formal activities, many of the members and panellists spent time networking and building on existing and new connections.
ABCSA would like to thank Nedbank for hosting of the event, Scott Morris for moderating, Nicky Weimar for the presentation, the panellists for their valuable insights and all of the ABCSA members that attended the event. The feedback received was all extremely positive and ABCSA look forward to hosting similar events through the course of this year. We will keep our members updated on these plans and welcome feedback and ideas on future events.
